Ever wondered what you get in a Half or Quarter of a pig, heres what you get!
Getting a half or quarter pig sounds daunting, but its not really!
Its a very economical and cost saving way to buy good quality home reared pork. We sell a half for £80 and you get a minimum of 22kg of pork. Thats what we feel good value for money for a premium product thats reared to a high welfare standard and helps maintain our British breeds of pig.
In a half pig you get everything, or if there is something you dont fancy we can tailor to your needs. You can tell us what you like or dont like and we can mix and match up. There are extra butchery costs for extra work such as boning and rolling but they are usually not much more than £3 per whole joint, thats per whole shoulder or leg broken down. Sausages can be made from cuts you dont fancy as much but there is a butchery charge of an extra £1 a lb.
Typically you get -
- A shoulder- This can be left whole as one very large joint or broken down into 2 or 3 depending on how you want it. Can also be diced up or turned to sausages. Full flavoured best when slow cooked a much under used cut. Makes nice roasting joints
- Loin- this is where your chops come from. Can be cut as chops or left as loin joints to roast or boned and rolled for tasty tender roasting joints. Usually around 16-20 chops or 2 or 3 loin joints or can be left whole. Very tender and tasty most peoples favourite.
- Belly- Probably my favourite. Can be cut into slabs to roast, sliced into strips, boned and rolled, diced or turned to sausages. A very tasty part that does have a bit of fat. Now a favourite amongst many retauraunts and chefs.
- Leg- Can be left whole or cut into 2 or 3 as a roasting joint or you can take leg steaks of the top to pan fry. Is again a tasty cut that makes wonderful eating
We can also provide the offal, head and trotters if required, but if you dont fancy them just say and we can put them to one side.
Heres a guide to cuts and what you could have, please dont be afraid to ask we are only to happy to help!

Quarter Pig- This is simply half of a half! You get the similar value for money just in smaller quantities of pork. We sell a quarter for £40 and it usually weighs a minimum of 11kg.
